The first forechecker will either pressure or contain depending on support. If the decision is to pressure, the forechecker must get to the puck carrier quickly and force the puck carrier to move the puck. Use the stick to cut down on passing lanes and possibly deflect a pass attempt. The second and third forecheckers must read and react to the play. By anticipating the next play, the forecheckers will shorten their reaction time resulting in more pressure to the offensive team.
