EMPHASIZE SCORING . Go To The Net
Any player can improve their scoring touch. It starts with the playing bearing down in practice. Every time the player takes a shot, the player should be trying to score. Often players just put the puck on the net almost as if scoring is an after thought. Shooting drills in practice are scoring drills and that needs to be fore reinforce to the players.
If the shot misses the net, the player can't score nor will be a rebound be created. Players have to make the goalie make a save. A shot on goal is never a bad play, but a shot that misses the net accomplishes nothing. Goalies like it when they don't even have to make a save.
After going to the net with or without the puck, stop in front of the net. Don't overskate the net and end up behind the goal line or in the corner. Stay in the goal scoring area to puck up pucks.

The clips below illustrate what can happen when a player simply goes to the net with his stick down when it is clear that the play is headed that way.
